BIO

Aisha Tandiwe Bell, is a Black Caribbean American Woman from Brooklyn, NY. Her mother encouraged her to draw on the walls of their apartment in 81. She has been making art since. She is a multi-media, video, installation and performance artist. She was raised Bobo-Shanti Rasta and lived in the community in Jamaica in her early childhood. Her family moved to NYC in the early eighties. She moved to Brooklyn in high school. Her father is eighth generation traceable African American his parents are from Tennessee and North Carolina having moved to NYC during the great migration. Aisha has been a dancer since 94, She is a spoken word artist having released 2 cds “say word” in 1999 and “Babble-on” in 2004 with the performance group “Second2Last. She has shown as a visual artist every year since her BFA show in 1998 but it was not until she received a NYFA fellowship in 2005 (Performance Art/Multidisciplinary Work) that she decided to focus and leave her tenured position as a NYC public H.S art teacher to make her Art full time. Aisha lives in Bedstuy Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.
