Artist Statement
I work in time-based media, live-cinema performances and large-scale installations. I often use specific technologies (from out-of-usage and defunct technologies to open source video) to present my research that are lately related to political and sexual betrayal.
http://ofricnaani.com/
I’m interested in forms of spatial narratives and reenactment of classic texts within a physical space, hoping to activate my audience and welcome their own readings by walking the space, experiencing the text and interpreting it.
My recent video installation, The Sota Project, is a reenactment and an interrogation of a Talmudic tale of adultery, betrayal and doubt. The piece invites viewers to step into room-sized moving panoramas, and walk through an enigmatic and disturbing ancient story that has hardly been told.
My current research, Betrayal in Three Acts, tells the story of women who have used their bodies to perform treason. Presented as a series of lectures, performances, and as audiovisual archive, this project uses the border between education, entertainment and political rhetoric, altering the audience’s position from that of onlooker to willing participant.
